EMH&T helped make a busy area in Canal Winchester, Ohio safer for pedestrians. Our team prepared project feasibility studies, funding applications, construction plans, and NEPA documentation for this safety improvement project which included extending sidewalk through the Gender Road (SR 674)/US 33 interchange. Modification to an existing bridge to accommodate adjacent sidewalk was required, along with reconfiguration of the US 33 westbound entrance ramp from a free-flow loop ramp to a traditional signalized intersection with dedicated right turn lane. The sidewalk provides a safer mode to connect residential development and transit centers north of the interchange with retail shopping and employment opportunities south of the interchange. The project is funded through the Highway Safety Improvement Program’s allocation for vulnerable road users and followed ODOT’s Local Project Administrator (LPA) process.

A lot of residents used to walk in the berm of the overpass to get over US-33. Definitely a valuable safety improvement to add the wide sidewalk to the structure. Well done planning and set of plans! Good collaboration ODOT, City of Columbus, City of Canal Winchester.

I am happy to see that EMH&T made the roadways safer in the City of Canal Winchester, Ohio. I am also glad that EMH&T sponsored the Untamed fundraiser at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.
