It was great to be a part of the recent Engineers Australia event in Alice Springs that hosted Chief Executive Officer Romilly Madew AO FTSE HonFIEAust EngExec and Chief Engineer Katherine Richards AM CSC and showcased some of the innovative and impactful projects happening in Central Australia. As well as hearing from Purple House (Western Desert Nganampa Walytja Palyantjaku Tjutaku Aboriginal Corporation) and Desert Knowledge Australia, Ekistica presented on some of the work we are doing and design of appropriate Keeping Places for communities to store their artefacts. It is great to have these opportunities to bring the STEM community together in Central Australia. Earlier this week, Engineers Australia held an event at the Desert Knowledge Precinct. DKA and Ekistica staff led a tour of the DKA Solar Centre, followed by an introduction to the incredible work of Purple House (Western Desert Nganampa Walytja Palyantjaku Tjutaku Aboriginal Corporation) and the biomedical engineering team based at the Precinct. Inspiring presentations by Engineers Australia CEO Romilly Madew AO FTSE HonFIEAust EngExec and Chief Engineer Katherine Richards were followed by vanessa ratard and Skye Haigh of Ekistica on the Community Keeping Places of Cultural Artefacts design project and finished with reflections of Grace Woodgate, a biomedical engineer working for Purple House, with some great networking afterwards. Thanks Engineers Australia for bringing together our local engineering community. We look forward to working together to support STEM engagement and the building of a sustainable future for the region.
