What if social bonds had a market value?
Siqi Chen built Friends for Sale to explore the hidden weights of friendship, combining game theory and human behavior.

Facebook, when it first got started, it had this idea that what it's trying to do is map the social graph. But in graph theory, there's like weights and edges and you have a friend relationship, you have the edges, but you don't have the weights. What is the intensity of this relationship? And I thought, why not have a market economy around the weights? And the way they get a market economy going is you have to introduce scarcity into the number of edges of the graph. So that's how friends for sale came to be. What if you can only have one friend at a time, but everyone have the bid basically real time to be that friend. And we made that into. Snap and people played it like a game.
