I need to be honest: when we ran the diagnostics on SOTA linear attention models, I had a genuine facepalm moment. 🤦♂️ We set out to use hybrid LLM conversion to boost efficiency, but what we found was that the current, leading methods have a critical, hidden flaw: They are ignoring the Linear Attention (LA) component entirely. 🤦♂️🤦♂️ Performance attribution was misleading. 🤬 The model was relying almost entirely on Sliding-Window Softmax (SWA). This completely undermines the promise of $O(T)$ complexity! So, we fixed it. 🤨 Our new paper introduces three solutions—like Scheduled Sliding-window Dropout (SSD)—that force the model to use both components genuinely. The best part? Enforcing genuine LA use actually improved overall accuracy compared to the SWA-driven hybrids.
