We keep hearing that AI will finally give active fund managers the edge they've been missing. But unfortunately, the academic research suggests that, on the contrary, it will make their jobs harder. Sounds counterintuitive? Here's the logic: 👉 AI improves stock analysis (60% accuracy vs 53% for humans) → Better analysis makes markets MORE efficient → More efficient markets mean LESS opportunity to outperform → AI-augmented funds become victims of their own success 🧠 In other words, AI strengthens the case for passive investing, not active management. Why pay premium fees when the technology advantage disappears within two years? 🤔 Full breakdown ➡️ https://shorturl.at/xqXtr #ActiveManagement #AI #PassiveInvesting #FinancialPlanning rockwealth

How are your AI acronyms? Pretty good, I bet. These are also worth your attention: GNN, XAI, RAG, and Inter-LLM. Spearheaded by our data science head Helen Krause, CFA , the latest Citi Institute report takes a deeper look at AI in investment management - and concludes that it isn’t just about cutting costs, it’s about unlocking new frontiers of insight. https://lnkd.in/eNFTdpRg These acronyms will be become everyday before long: 📌 GNN (Graph Neural Networks): Think of financial markets as networks of companies, counterparties and macro factors. GNNs help reveal hidden relationships between entities that traditional models miss. 📌 XAI (Explainable AI for GenAI): As AI tools move into alpha-generation, transparency matters. XAI asks: Why did the model say this? — critical in regulated investment environments. 📌 RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation): Generative models + curated knowledge bases = more robust outputs. In investing: link LLMs to internal data, research archives and live feeds to avoid “hallucinations”. 📌 Inter-LLM Communication: Imagine specialised models — one for factor discovery, another for macro risk — talking to each other, critiquing and combining insights. That’s the next layer of sophistication. 💡 For the 30+ asset managers and allocators we interviewed: the question is no longer whether to adopt AI — it’s how to embed these emerging capabilities responsibly and effectively. Data strategy, infrastructure, governance and human-in-the-loop will be the gating factors. 🔍 If you’re exploring how to move from “wow” to “how” in your AI journey — whether fundamental or quant — these capabilities are the real differentiators, being used today by investor clients.
