As we recognize International Fraud Awareness Week, we’re asking all Chesterfield employees to stay alert, stay informed, and help protect the resources entrusted to our local government. Every year, fraud, waste, and abuse cost organizations around the world billions, but the good news is that most cases are uncovered because someone chose to speak up. Here’s what that looks like in our organization: Fraud: Intentional deception for personal gain or to cause harm. (Examples include falsifying timesheets or records or manipulating expense reports) Waste: The careless, unnecessary, or thoughtless use of county resources. (Examples include excessive overtime, inefficient use of supplies, fuel, or equipment) Abuse: Improper use of authority or resources outside what is legal, ethical, or appropriate. (Examples include using county equipment for personal benefit or granting special privileges) If you see something that doesn’t look right, you can report it safely and anonymously. Chesterfield’s completely confidential Fraud, Waste & Abuse Hotline (804-318-8000) is available 24/7. You can also file a report online at chesterfield.gov/report Protecting our resources protects our mission. #FraudPrevention #FraudAwarenessWeek
