Designing HVAC Systems for Lithium-Ion Battery Rooms: Where Safety Meets Precision As lithium-ion battery storage becomes central to energy resilience and decarbonization, HVAC design isn’t just about comfort; it’s about containment, control, and continuity. In recent projects, we’ve tackled the unique thermal and ventilation demands of battery energy storage systems (BESS), where even minor oversights in airflow or temperature gradients can compromise performance; or worse, safety. Key considerations: • Thermal runaway prevention through zoned cooling and redundancy • Hydrogen and off-gas management with ASHRAE/IEEE 1635-compliant ventilation • Fire containment strategies integrated with HVAC zoning and pressure control • Battery performance optimization via preconditioning and all-climate thermal strategies Whether it’s a transit facility, data center, or renewable microgrid, HVAC design for lithium-ion systems demands a multidisciplinary approach, balancing code compliance, operational safety, and energy efficiency. If you’re navigating similar challenges or exploring BESS integration, I’d love to connect and exchange insights. #HVACDesign #BatteryStorage #LithiumIon #EnergyResilience #Therma #tkda

I’ve just uploaded a short video showing the 3D Sun Path — a powerful visualization that helps engineers and designers understand how the sun moves across the sky throughout the year. Why it’s important: In solar PV installation, knowing the sun’s trajectory is essential for: 1.Determining the optimal tilt and orientation of solar panels 2. Identifying shading issues from nearby buildings, trees, or structures 3. Maximizing energy generation efficiency across seasons 4.Designing systems that are both aesthetically aligned and technically optimised In this video, you’ll see how the 3D sun path helps visualise sunlight angles at different times of the day and year — a key step in professional solar PV system design and site assessment. If you’re working in renewable energy, solar design, or sustainable construction, this tool can be a game changer! Watch the video to see how 3D sun path analysis enhances solar project accuracy and performance. #SolarEnergy #PVDesign #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #SunPath #SolarEngineering #CleanEnergy

I’ve been digging into California’s 2025 Title 24 energy code update, which takes effect January 1st next year, and one thing is clear: it’s raising the bar for wall performance. (the whole envelope really) If you build modular projects in or for California, or supply wall systems for those projects, the code update is worth your attention. U-factor targets are tighter, thermal bridging has a bigger impact, and documentation around wall assemblies is getting more detailed. Here’s my key takeaway as a polyiso focused guy: continuous insulation (CI) isn’t required everywhere, but it’s quickly becoming the easiest and most reliable way to comply. Here’s why CI stands out: ✅ It cuts thermal bridging and boosts whole-wall performance without reworking framing. ✅ It makes it easier to hit the new prescriptive U-factors across more climate zones. ✅ It reduces headaches during field verification by creating cleaner, continuous assemblies. ✅ It helps future-proof projects as codes move toward higher performance. Yes, you can still use cavity insulation alone in some assemblies, but many of those paths will be harder and more expensive. CI often gets you there faster and with a better margin for error.
