Taking your first step into dairy farming can feel daunting, but you don’t have to do it alone. At BNZ, we understand the challenges new farmers face, and we’re here to help. That’s why we’ve launched First Farm, a new initiative to make it easier for aspiring dairy farmers to purchase their first farm or herd. We’re lowering deposit requirements for eligible first-time buyers and those purchasing their first dairy herd. But it’s about more than finance: every First Farm customer is matched with an experienced farmer mentor for their first two seasons, offering real, one-on-one support with business planning, budgeting, people decisions, and succession planning. As Dave Handley, BNZ’s General Manager Agribusiness and Corporate Banking, says: “For many young farmers, getting their first foothold on the farming ladder is very challenging. First Farm is about bridging that gap by making ownership more achievable. Every farming customer participating in our First Farm programme will be matched with an experienced farmer mentor who has been through the highs and lows of herd or farm ownership and knows what it takes to make a farming business succeed.” We’re committed to backing the next generation of farmers and making sure no one has to go it alone. While we’re starting with dairy, we intend to bring more initiatives to market for other agri sectors soon. If you’re ready to take your first step, we’re here for you. The First Farm Package has limited availability and is subject to change. Deposit requirements and pricing are assessed on a case-by-case basis
