Meet Officer Ismael Perez | 2025 Axon Awards Winner
A newborn’s first breath came not in a hospital but during a traffic stop in Deming, New Mexico. Late at night on patrol, New Mexico State Police Officer Ismael Perez pulled over a car that had run a stop sign. Inside, he found a mother and father in crisis. Their baby had just been delivered, still attached by the umbilical cord and wasn’t breathing. With no medical assistance and no time to wait, Officer Perez cleared the baby’s airway and helped him take his first breath. Then he looked up and gave the father news he’ll never forget: “It’s a boy.” These are the moments that define service and the kind of bravery the RISE Awards were created to honor. If you know someone who deserves to be recognized, nominations are open through December 31 for the 2026 #AxonAwards at axon.com/awards #Axon #ProtectLife
