#Drone_wall goes live in NATO tests! 🇫🇷🛡️🤖 ATREYD’s #DWS1 was trialed in France by the DGA - Direction générale de l'armement with NATO and has been shipped to Ukraine for operational evaluation. The tests validated the full detect, decide, intercept chain as part of the Glide Bomb campaign that began in June 2025. Tech highlights: AI-coordinated FPV interceptors, 3D terrain mapping, friend-or-foe ID, GPS-independent operation, heavy EW tolerance, containerized system, runs 24/7, and one operator can manage up to 100 drones. DGA contribution: secure #test_ranges, operational #data, and #lessons shared with NATO to harden deployment plans. Bottom line: the drone wall is here, but it still must prove its combat effectiveness, resilience against EW spoofing, and the ability to handle dozens to hundreds of simultaneous threats. The Air Force is accelerating tests of new counter-drone systems to address an escalating unmanned threat, evaluating both high-power microwave weapons and sensor networks. Industry leader Epirus showcased its Leonidas system, a high-power microwave platform that can disable swarms of drones with a single pulse by inducing damaging voltages in electronics, and the Air Force may lease two to four trailer-mounted Leonidas units for testing in 2026. The Air Force Research Laboratory continues work on THOR-derived systems like Leidos’ ACE-compliant Mjolnir to support agile combat employment, enabling rapid deployment by small teams in forward locations. Companies such as AeroVironment are also deploying long-range detection systems and command software to create a fused common operating picture at key bases. Military and industry leaders emphasize that counter-UAS solutions must be affordable, expendable, and integrated into routine training and logistics to remain effective; capability alone is not sufficient without appropriate procurement strategies and doctrinal adjustments. Embraer has announced that its A-29 Super Tucano light attack and training aircraft will gain new capabilities to counter unmanned aerial systems (UAS), further broadening its mission portfolio amid growing global demand for anti-drone solutions. The new counter-UAS concept of operations (CONOPS) builds on existing A-29 systems, using current sensors, laser-guided weapons, and .50 calibre machine guns to detect, track, and neutralise drones. The aircraft will employ data links to receive target coordinates, EO/IR sensors for laser tracking and designation, and its existing armament suite for engagement — all with minimal additional cost or modification. “The recent conflicts worldwide have shown the urgent need for effective and affordable counter-drone solutions,” said Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security. “The A-29 is the ideal tool to counter UAS, combining low operating costs with proven combat versatility.” Already in service with 22 air forces worldwide, the A-29 Super Tucano has logged over 600,000 flight hours across missions including close air support, reconnaissance, advanced training, border surveillance, and armed ISR. Renowned for its rugged design and ability to operate from unimproved runways, the A-29 remains a cost-effective, multi-mission platform well suited to modern warfare challenges.
