As we recognized Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, our Chief Marketing Officer – and two-time breast cancer survivor – Elizabeth Rutledge joined Dr. Eleni Stavrou, Breast Medical Oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, for an inspiring conversation hosted by our Healthy Living team and Women’s Interest Colleague Network. Amex colleagues and breast cancer survivors Alicia J. Hughes and Tammy Yee led the discussion, with Alicia moderating and Tammy providing opening and closing remarks. Together, these remarkable women shared stories and insights which shined a light on the courage, resilience, and hope that defines the breast cancer community. Reflecting on her treatment journey, Elizabeth spoke about the unwavering support she received from her Amex leaders and colleagues: “At the end of the day, everybody is going through something.” Experiencing such empathy, she shared, has made her a more empathetic and thoughtful leader. At American Express, we know leaning on our communities can make navigating difficult moments a little easier, which is why we’re proud to back #TeamAmex with resources available like free health screenings, access to oncology experts, free mental health counseling, and meaningful conversations like this one. #BreastCancerAwareness *Resources vary by location. J’ai été contactée pour le poste nécessitant un niveau natif en français. L’entretien a été fixé mais l’interlocuteur ne s’est pas présenté et je n’ai reçu aucun suivi. J’espère simplement un processus de recrutement professionnel et respectueux.
A beautiful reminder that empathy and support can make all the difference. Grateful to see organizations like Amex leading by example. 💕 #BreastCancerAwareness
