Another personal post from me... With today being #WorldPrematurityDay, a cause very close to my heart, it feels important to share our story to raise awareness. My son arrived at 27 weeks and my daughter at 31 weeks. My journey into motherhood didn’t go to plan (twice) and if opening up helps even one family feel less alone, then it’s worth it. Thankfully, our story has a happy ending, with both now thriving young adults, but the road to get here wasn’t easy. Through it all, I saw first-hand how much compassion and empathy matter - especially from employers. My husband’s employers were incredibly supportive, giving him the flexibility he needed to be with our babies in hospital. People are human, and there are moments in life when that humanity needs to be recognised. A little understanding and flexibility during the toughest times makes an enormous difference. I’m sharing this to shine a light on prematurity, to offer support to anyone navigating a similar path, and to acknowledge the extraordinary people and charities like Born Too Soon who carried us through those early, uncertain days.
