Yesterday, my manager told me - “Vivek, you or I won’t be needed once this new system comes in." And honestly, I didn’t know what to say for a few seconds. We were discussing about Agentic AI. He wasn’t being sarcastic. Just brutally real. We’re a two-person CLM team (with a marketing head above us). And with how fast Agentic AI is evolving, he’s right - a lot of what we do today manually could soon be automated. Campaign logic, execution, even reporting - all could become self-learning workflows. But here’s where I disagree with him. I said, you won’t become redundant, you’ll evolve. Your work won’t end with campaign execution. It’ll shift to designing intelligent workflows, managing experience loops, and connecting CLM insights to other business pillars - product, support, finance, sales. He said, “That’s what the marketing head will do.” And I replied, “Then maybe one day, you’ll be doing what the marketing head does today.” Silence. That’s the reality we’re all stepping into. Agentic AI won’t replace teams - it’ll compress hierarchies and expand responsibilities. The people who adapt early won’t lose relevance - they’ll move up the stack. Massive shoutout to our SVP of Partnerships, Jana Jakovljevic, for representing #TeamCognitiv yesterday at BidSwitch Connect 2025 on the panel, “AI at the Demand Edge: How AI is Rewiring AdTech.” Jana broke down what the AI era really means for our industry: ✨ AI is expanding who gets to build. People who deeply understand audiences, yield, and campaign strategy have traditionally been limited by engineering resources. Now, AI enables non-technical experts to automate workflows, prototype ideas, and unlock value faster than ever. 🎨 Agentic AI will optimize, but creativity still differentiates. AI can tell you blue converts better than red, but it cannot tell you if your brand is losing its soul. If every brand optimizes for the same metrics with similar models, we risk a future of “sea-of-sameness” advertising: efficient but devoid of personality. 🎯 Context is becoming the new currency. RTB was built in 2009 for cookie-based performance targeting, not for understanding the nuance of premium, rich contextual signals. Protocols like the Ad Context Protocol could enable publishers to prove the value of their environments, not just their inventory, and finally command the CPMs that reflect that value. ☂️ Not all “AI” is created equal. The label “AI-powered” is everywhere now, but many solutions still rely on older machine learning approaches packaged under an AI umbrella.
