How can we reduce water pollution and protect our natural water resources? Sometimes nature shows us the best solutions! 💧 In the Philippines, a flagship project was launched in 2024: a green filter system. Together with the Global Nature Fund and Living Lakes Network we have realised a project that not only reduces water pollution in a park, but also strengthens the entire ecosystem. Each of our 18 constructed wetlands is adapted to local conditions in order to effectively protect water resources. The result? Healthy ecosystems that benefit plants, animals and people. 🌏 Help us raise awareness of the importance of clean water. Share this post and show your commitment to environmental protection.

🌊 Living Rivers: Ireland and Europe in Action Under the EU Water Framework Directive, all Member States must restore rivers, lakes and estuaries to good ecological status by 2027. Yet progress remains slow. #GreenFridays looks at how innovation and collaboration are taking shape: ✅ Organisations like LAWPRO, The Rivers Trust and SWAN are leading efforts for cleaner, free-flowing rivers — from local catchment action to national advocacy. ✅ EU-funded initiatives, such as Waters of LIFE and the European Innovation Partnership, are helping farmers and foresters deliver practical, nature-based solutions on the ground. ✅ Inspiration from abroad: from the Netherlands’ Room for the River programme to New Zealand’s Whanganui River rights, countries are showing what’s possible when we work with nature, not against it. ✅ Innovation is flowing: solar-powered water-quality sensors are now monitoring rivers in real time — providing open data and early warnings for pollution. From Galway to the Netherlands and New Zealand, one message is clear: when rivers are given space to flow naturally, they heal — and life returns. Sources include: European Commission, HubSpot, Irish Government, Waters of LIFE, The Sustainable Water Network (SWAN), Local Authority Waters Programme, Rijkswaterstaat, MDPI and The Rivers Trust #GreenFridays #LivingRivers #WaterQuality #EUWaterFrameworkDirective #Rewilding #Sustainability

🌊 Living Rivers: Restoration in Action Across Ireland — and around the world — rivers are under pressure. Nearly half of Ireland’s rivers, lakes and estuaries are now classed as being in unsatisfactory condition (EPA 2025), with many once-pristine waterways losing their high-quality status. But action is underway. From farmers and foresters to local councils and citizen scientists, communities are restoring rivers and re-imagining how water moves through our landscapes. We explore how: ✅ Dams and weirs are being removed to let rivers flow freely again ✅ Wetlands and riparian buffer zones are filtering pollution naturally ✅ Farmers are leading change through sustainable land management ✅ Countries like the Netherlands and New Zealand are showing what’s possible when people give rivers space to heal Every action counts — from local rewilding projects to EU-wide restoration goals. Because when rivers recover, life returns. Sources include: RTE, Rewilding Europe, The Rivers Trust, WWF. We were happy to perform routine maintenance at one of South Africa's leading eco-tourism pioneers in Limpopo, a beautiful Private Game Reserve, home to over a thousand wild animals, including the Big Five.🐾🦁 Why is routine maintenance Key? This client is deeply committed to environmental conservation. Their wastewater system plays a crucial role in protecting the reserve's pristine ecosystem from contamination. Because of this conscious, proactive approach, their system rarely requires emergency intervention. This week's visit was a straightforward, standard maintenance service to ensure every component was running optimally. The system received a seamless, ad hoc service, requiring only a check-up to confirm continued peak performance. When you prioritise regular servicing, you ensure the longevity and reliability of your wastewater system, guaranteeing that your operations leave zero negative impact on sensitive natural habitats. It's proof that continuous commitment to maintenance is the best form of environmental protection.🌟 #Maintenanceservice #Wastewatertreatment #Waterrecycling

Priority ecosystems continue to be degraded. It is estimated that only 25% of Ireland’s peatlands are healthy enough to provide ecosystem services such as carbon sequestration and freshwater filtration. Read more📑: https://shorturl.at/V7fRG

Building near water requires careful consideration to protect aquatic ecosystems. Pressure-treated Southern Pine lumber, when used responsibly, helps minimize environmental impact. Best Management Practices (BMPs) outline how to produce and install treated Southern Pine lumber effectively while using just the right amount of preservative. 🌏💧 Bring water into focus Nature sustains water, and water sustains nature. For National Water Week (20–26 October 2025), Water Services Association of Australia (WSAA) is pleased to share our Nature Positive Water paper, which sets out a comprehensive framework and key focus areas to help achieve a Nature Positive future. Featuring 20+ case studies from Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, the paper highlights opportunities for water utilities and guides measuring and reporting Nature Positive initiatives. With nature loss impacting our economy and society, understanding these risks and opportunities is critical to building resilient services and infrastructure for generations to come. Achieving a Nature Positive future requires us to recognise the interconnectedness of climate, nature, and the circular economy—with water as the vital link across all three. Explore the report here 👉 https://lnkd.in/g9k-h_8s And the Water Night is back! This Thursday, 23 October 2025, from 5pm to 10pm, households are encouraged to turn off non-essential taps and take a moment to reflect on how often we reach for running water – and how valuable it truly is. Sign up now and get involved: https://waternight.com.au The Water Research Foundation (WRF) #WaterIsLife #WSAA #Australia #TheWaterConservancy #FromHabitToHero #WaterNight25 #Water #WaterNightAU #Sustainability

Sustainable Watershed Management: The Key to Clean Water Did you know that water quality begins not at the tap but in the watershed? As I explored Water Quality Assessments (Chapman, 1996) and FAO’s Watershed Management in Action (2017), one truth stood out: Healthy watersheds create healthy communities. From physical indicators like turbidity and pH, to biological ones like macroinvertebrates and algae, water tells the story of how we manage our land. Sustainable watershed management isn’t just about conservation it’s about integration: land use, community participation, and continuous monitoring that informs real action. Across Africa, initiatives like the Upper Tana-Nairobi Water Fund and Lake Victoria Basin Commission are showing that collaborative monitoring, science-based management, and local stewardship can restore ecological balance. Let’s rethink how we manage our watersheds not just as drainage systems, but as living ecosystems that sustain life, livelihoods, and resilience. #WaterQuality #Sustainability #EnvironmentalScience #WatershedManagement #Kenya #ClimateAction #FAO #UNEP #PublicHealth #Research

In Papua New Guinea’s Managalas Plateau, communities are working to protect one of the world’s most biodiverse landscapes while securing their livelihoods. After decades of local effort, the area was officially recognized as a conservation site. Now, with support from CIFOR-ICRAF and partners, work continues to strengthen community-led conservation and create new opportunities for sustainable development. From environmental education in schools to improving local market access, the initiative is helping ensure that the forests, and the people who depend on them, can thrive together.
