Back in 2017, we delivered one of our favourite projects — a Robotic Sealant Applicator for Microwave Ovens. The system featured a Universal UR5 Robot that precisely applied sealant to the oven edges, meeting tight application tolerances to ensure a perfect, consistent seal every time. After completing one side, the oven rotated the unit 90 degrees on a custom-built rotary table, locked it into position, and finished the job — all safely contained within an enclosed safety light barrier. Technologies that are a centuries apart! For many small manufacturing companies, automation can feel like a dream, something reserved for the companies with big wallets. Some of our machines are workhorses that are solid, reliable, but not exactly “plug and play” when it comes to modern automation. Integrating robotics into older equipment isn’t always easy. It takes creativity, patience, and a fair bit of trial and error. But..... It's absolutely worth it! A while ago, we added a robot arm to one of our cylindrical grinding machines, a machine that’s been in daily use for years. With some smart retrofitting and careful programming, the robot now handles loading and unloading reamer blanks automatically. The result: ✅ Increased machine uptime ✅ Consistent cycle times ✅ And the biggest win 🏆hundreds of extra man-hours per month that our team can now spend on other work. This proves that automation isn’t just for new or large factories with shiny new machines.
