Sharing some exciting news. On behalf of our chairman, Greg Penner, and our Board of Directors, John Furner will become Walmart’s CEO on February 1, 2026, succeeding Doug McMillon who will retire January 31, 2026 but stay on the Board through June and as an advisor through January 31, 2027. John is a merchant, an operator, an innovator and a builder who started his career more than 30 years ago with Walmart as an hourly associate. His love for our associates and Walmart runs deep. Congratulations John! https://walmrt.us/4oArdIJ
While other retailers are struggling to find the right leader, Walmart has an embarassment of riches. As an old school San Diego Charger fan who grew up hating the San Francisco 49ers, I remember how annoying it was when Joe Montana finally retired and they immediately replaced him with Steve Young. That must be how Walmart's competitors feel today. Through dumb luck, I've had the previllage of being "in the room" with some legendary retail leaders including Joe Coulombe, Sol Price, and Wayne Huizenga while they were inventing the future of retail. When you're in the room with Doug and John, you get the same vibe. Mr Sam's leadership principals set the table for the succession planning Walmart benefits from today. Congratulations to Doug, John, and the Walmart Board for making something extreamly difficult look annoyingly easy.
Congratulations John Furner! Walmart couldn’t have picked a more deserving successor to the legendary Doug! Also best wishes to you Doug McMillon for the future! You have been an inspiration for so many of us and you leave behind such a great legacy! There won’t be ever any other leader like you! It was a privilege to have worked in Walmart under your leadership!
Congratulations to both John and Doug!
Wow! Huge news! Congrats John Furner! And Doug McMillon you have left one heck of a legacy.
Having the pleasure of working at the Home Office from 2017-2023 and observing the leadership of Doug, I am sad to see him go, but I also know that Walmart will be in good hands. Mcmillon 2028?
