Today, November 13, APTA is celebrating National Transit Career Day, joining public transit agencies nationwide to highlight diverse career paths across the industry. The event spotlights opportunities from engineering and planning to operations and executive leadership, underscoring public transportation’s role as essential community infrastructure. More than 100 transit agencies and industry partners nationwide will mark National #TransitCareer Day with job fairs, recruitment events, and community outreach highlighting available positions. “National Transit Career Day is about building the future workforce of public transportation by connecting with people who want meaningful careers while serving their communities,” said Paul Skoutelas, APTA President and CEO. “Our industry blends innovation with public service, giving professionals the chance to work on projects that directly improve quality of life for millions of Americans every day.” The $93 billion public transportation industry directly employs more than 430,000 people and supports millions of private-sector jobs nationwide, with 77 percent of federal transit investment flowing to the private sector—expanding employment well beyond transit agencies. To support workforce development for its members, APTA developed a toolkit https://lnkd.in/ex5r2BNx with career videos, brochures, and additional resources to assist with recruiting and retaining staff. In addition, APTA has a six-part Workforce Development Series https://lnkd.in/eRnEm-c8 offering best practices, case studies, and strategies for recruiting and retaining talent. Topics include promoting transit careers, creating internships and apprenticeships, and building transit-focused curricula. These resources expand on APTA’s 2021 Transit Workforce Readiness Guide https://lnkd.in/eE8FcEqz . #TransitCareers https://lnkd.in/epXyRhax

🎓 Connecting Education with Real-World Experience Education is most meaningful when it extends beyond the classroom. I recently saw a great example of a Part-Time Jobs Fair at another university, where students connected directly with employers and explored real opportunities alongside their studies. It would be great to see GBS and the Careers Team bring more initiatives like this, such as part time job fairs, workshops, and networking events, to help students across all courses gain experience, confidence, and career readiness. GBS has incredible talent, all we need are more platforms to turn learning into opportunity. 🌍✨ #GBS #StudentVoice #Careers #HigherEducation #Employability #ExperienceMatters #StudentEngagement #EducationForGrowth

Young people don’t need to have perfect plans. What they need is guidance, confidence and clarity. 🧭 Yesterday at the career orientation fair for pupils in the age of 15-17 at Lippe Berufskolleg, I had the opportunity to present BHTC GmbH and the opportunities we offer, from apprenticeships to dual study programs. 👩🏼🏫👌🏼 In my opinion, the education system needs to focus more on supporting young people understand their strengths and opportunities. In a world full of change, the kids deserve to understand which skills will matter most in the future and which career fields will remain essential. 💡 Giving young people clear and honest insights into the world of work is key to helping them make confident decisions. 🚀😊 #CareerOrientation #loveHR #Jobs

When 500+ students meet 30 hiring teams in one hall, you can feel the college‑to‑career gap closing in real time 🤝 As seeing events like Santa Rosa Junior College's Fall Job Fair gives me hope. 500+ students. 30 employers. One powerful message: opportunities exist for those ready to grab them. What stood out to me: • Companies like Innovative Behavior Resources actively seeking fresh talent in specialized fields • First-time participants like Elevo Learning expanding their reach to find the right candidates • Students showing up with energy and genuine curiosity about career paths The gap between classroom learning and industry needs feels smaller when events like this happen. For us computer science students, it's a reminder that networking isn't just about LinkedIn connections. It's about showing up, asking questions, and demonstrating genuine interest in solving real problems. The tech industry needs fresh perspectives. We need guidance and opportunities. Events like these bridge that gap perfectly. As I prepare for my own transition from student to professional, I'm reminded that the best opportunities often come from putting yourself out there. What's been your experience with job fairs? Any advice for students making that crucial college-to-career transition? #CareerFair #StudentLife #TechCareers 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞: https://lnkd.in/gKMtPWnp

💡 Small businesses don’t have to compete with big corporations for great hires — they just need to know where to look. One powerful (and often overlooked) strategy? Partner with local trade and technical schools. These schools are full of motivated, job-ready candidates who are eager to learn and grow. By showing up at job fairs, offering apprenticeships, or even speaking to students about your industry, you can build a direct pipeline of future employees — people who are loyal, skilled, and aligned with your company’s values. Learn how to start building your own talent pipeline! https://lnkd.in/g-mWmuAH

5dThanks for sharing your perspective. I'm particularly interested in how transit agencies can better highlight career mobility paths to attract talent. Could you elaborate on what you've seen work well in this area?
