According to data released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), BYD achieved retail sales of 295,900 units in October, marking a sharp year-on-year drop of 31.4%. In contrast, Geely Auto saw its sales surge by 36.8% month-on-month to 265,600 units in the same month. Amid such a contrasting trend of decline and growth, the gap in monthly retail sales between the two stood at merely 30,000 units, and their retail market share differed by just 1.4 percentage points. Even in terms of cumulative retail sales from January to October this year, Geely Auto is fast closing in on BYD, with 2.14 million units sold and a robust year-on-year growth rate of 56.2%. The market share gap between the two enterprises has narrowed to a mere 3.6 percentage points. More notably, under the statistical standards of the CPCA, Geely Auto's retail sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) rose by 54.7% year-on-year in October. Its cumulative retail growth rate from January to October almost doubled compared with the same period last year, outpacing the 21.9% growth rate of China's domestic NEV retail market during the same period by a significant 76 percentage points. This indicates that Geely is gaining stronger momentum in the NEV sector, a key battlefield that will shape the future of the automotive industry. BYD and Aeon entering into a sales alliance. I do notice more BYD cars on the roads these days. Below is from the Nikkei article ⬇️ TOKYO -- Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD and Japan's Aeon will enter into a sales alliance by the end of this year, Nikkei has learned. With the major retail chain's discounts and incentive programs, consumers will be able to buy an electric car for around 2 million yen ($13,300). Aeon will initially set up sections handling the new service inside some 30 of its commercial facilities and general merchandise stores across the nation. The expected deal may change Japan's conventional automobile distribution structure that is dominated by dealerships affiliated with carmakers. Aeon will serve as an intermediary on behalf of BYD to receive orders and arrange sales contracts. In the future, it plans to import EVs from the partner. In cooperation with BYD's dealers in Japan, the retail chain will display EVs inside its outlets and market them to visitors. BYD plans to increase the number of dealers in Japan to 100 by yearend, while Aeon will open the EV sales sections within its commercial facilities that are close to dealers. https://lnkd.in/gSSxfT3u
