A landmark development for Pacifico Energy Korea and Korea’s transition to clean, renewable energy 👍👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🇰🇷🇰🇷🇰🇷 For Pacifico Energy Korea, this is just the first phase of its development of a 3.2GW offshore wind cluster in Korea, one of the largest offshore wind clusters of its kind in the entire APAC region...if not the world. Why is this so important? Korea is one of the most, if not THE most, export dependent economies in the world. It’s safe to say that Korea “lives or dies” on export performance. With the global transition from “black to green” energy, and the resulting pressure imposed on global manufacturers and exporters to meet, among others, the RE100 scheme, Korea must prepare itself for uncharted waters. For Korea, this is NOT about “energy security”; it’s about “national survial.” But as the quintessential “Can Do” nation, Korea will once again overcome any challenge and lead the global pack. Pacifico Energy Korea’s goal is not only to become the leading developer of offshore wind in Korea and in the APAC region, but to solidify Korea’s position as the “hub” of renewable energy in the entire APAC region and solidify Korea’s place as the global supply chain leader in the offshore wind space. Pacifico Energy Korea has received approval from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) for an Electricity Business License (EBL) for the 420 MW Myeong Ryang Offshore Wind Project, located off the coast of Jindo County in South Jeolla Province. “This EBL marks a major step forward for Pacifico Energy Korea in developing the 3.2GW Jindo offshore wind project cluster – one of the largest offshore wind project clusters of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region,” said Seung-Ho Choe (최승호), Representative Director of Pacifico Energy Korea. “We will continue to work closely with South Jeolla Province, Jindo County, and the local community to ensure the successful development of the Myeong Ryang Offshore Wind Project.” The licence confirms the project’s site boundaries and capacity, enabling the company to advance into the key permitting phase. Geotechnical surveys are scheduled to begin in Q4 2025, to be followed by environmental and maritime safety assessments. Construction is expected to start in 2030, with commercial operations targeted for the end of 2033.
