Floating hospitality projects, a feat of experiential luxury that brings together hospitality, marine engineering, and tourism, are now gaining prominence in the Middle East and are just getting started. This month, Abu Dhabi unveiled its own iteration of the development, with the Orchid Overnight Superyacht, a hotel permanently moored at Yas Marina. It joins a slew of new developments in construction or already opened, from the recently renovated Queen Elizabeth 2 at Mina Rashed, to Kempinski’s Floating Palace project, set to launch next year. As opposed to cruise liners, floating hotels do not sail and are permanently docked in their chosen port or harbour. Their green credentials, in contrast to those of their land-based counterparts, give floating hotels a unique advantage.
