I wear an AI pin that records my conversations. Yes, it's weird. My team had to get used to it. I had to get used to it. But here's what happened: Last month, we were setting Q4 and Q1 strategy. I used the recorded data to analyze patterns, test assumptions, role play different perspectives. I literally asked it to "be the CEO of Spotify and analyze this." It worked. I came up with a strategy I wouldn't have found on my own. But here's the thing—AI couldn't have done it without me either. It needed context. It needed judgment. It needed someone to know when we were talking about coffee orders versus company strategy. The point isn't that AI replaces decision-making. It's that AI makes you think differently. It expands your perspective. It catches patterns you'd miss. Data matters. But humans still need to shape it, interpret it, and ultimately decide what to do with it. That's the balance we're all figuring out right now.

A great AI anecdote from Vlad Gyster that reinforces "you won't lose your job to AI, you'll lose your job to someone using AI". As Neuroscientist David Eagleman points out, AI still hasn't come up with something along the lines of Einstein's theory of relativity, or Darwin's theory of evolution. It takes human brains to do that.

Retention & contract size for AI products are accelerating, which signals AI is not in a bubble, says Ara Kharazian, Economist at Ramp. "In 2023, the avg. contract for an AI product that the company was buying was $30k-$40k. We estimate the avg. contract will hit $1M next year." AI can’t help you if you don’t know what you’re doing. Sounds harsh, but it’s true. If you don’t have the foundations, if you haven’t sat with the numbers, asked the questions, learned the hard way then all AI gives you is confidence in the wrong answers. Jacquelyn Simpson said it perfectly on the When It Matters pod... “You still have to have the foundations. That takes years. There’s no way you’re going to be taught that by automation.” Because AI should amplify your judgement. Not replace it. 👇 Hear more on the pod.
