- [Instructor] We discussed security steps previously, but to go in more depth, one-time security measures need to be paired with regular security maintenance in order to keep your site secure. Luckily, with WordPress, you can perform and even automate simple tasks to keep your data safe. On a regular basis, make sure you're updating plugins and themes the way we talked about in the previous chapter. Checking for updates every two to four weeks is a good cadence. Whenever you take updates, make sure to back up your site before performing the update just in case anything goes wrong. Speaking of backups, those should be performed on a regular basis, too. You should be taking backups of the site files, as well as the database. Frequency of backups will rely on how often your site changes. For example, if you have a store that takes many orders per day, daily backups are a good idea. You can even opt for multiple backups per day if you receive lots and lots and lots of orders.
