Distributed Switch Security policies

Distributed Switch Security policies

- [Rick] In this video, I'll demonstrate how to configure the security settings on a distributed port group in vSphere 8. So here's a port group that I've already created. I'm just going to right click it, go to edit settings. And under edit settings I'm going to go to security. And I have three options here. Number one, promiscuous mode, which I can see is currently set to reject. So what promiscuous mode is going to allow me to do is to sniff traffic on this network. So when I enable promiscuous mode on a port group, I can connect a virtual machine to that port group and it can detect all of the frames that are being passed on that port group. So for example, something like a sniffer or something like an intrusion prevention system could be a good candidate for promiscuous mode, because it needs the ability to monitor all of the traffic on that distributed port group. But under normal circumstances, this is a really…
