vCenter 7 architecture and the Platform Services Controller (PSC)

In this video, I'll explain the roles of vCenter and the platform services controller and explain how they can be used to manage our vSphere environment, including ESXi hosts and virtual machines. So first off, what is vCenter? Well, vCenter is our central management system for vSphere. And when you hear the term vSphere, which you want to think of, is basically everything related to vCenter, the ESXi hosts, the virtual switches, datastores, the ability to create virtual machines. That's vSphere. All of the stuff included in this product is part of vSphere. And so here you see a couple of virtual data centers. And if you think back to our intro to virtualization lesson, these virtual data centers, these are software defined data centers. So in our vCenter inventory, we can create virtual data centers and we can populate them with clusters and ESXi hosts. And running on those ESXi hosts are going to be a bunch of virtual…
