Levels of design: Interface
- [Instructor] After we have defined the structure of and flows through a product, we turn our focus to the appearance and behavior of the interface. We also add the refinement, nuance, and special details that elevate the experience beyond basic form and function. We give the product style, voice, and personality. But this is more than just brand and identity because the appearance and behavior of the interface help people understand the structure and flow. It clarifies content, guides toward functionality, makes feedback understandable and easy to learn, and helps people identify when they can apply their prior experiences. Appearance also has meaning. The choice of color, typographic treatments, images, illustrations, and icons can make products easier and more enjoyable to use, but poor interface design decisions can detract from or even interfere with the product experience.
