Build on an existing system

- For most of us, the system is always changing. Whether we're adapting it from one project to another, simplifying or expanding it, as we imagine possibilities and chase ideas, the gear has to keep up and be the tool we need to give life to something new. When we're working with a stable, fully implemented setup, and a problem comes up, the goal of troubleshooting is to restore existing functionality. With new and evolving designs, the problem solving process is similar, but the challenges arise from following a creative direction that requires new solutions. More often than not, rather than create in a vacuum, we start with a configuration that has worked in the past and that we're familiar with, or combine aspects of designs that we have built previously. Developing and shaping the functionality of a system more or less incrementally makes good sense in many circumstances. If something's already working well, why reinvent it?
