Using AI to write a project proposal
- When you're trying to sell your project ideas to decision-makers, you need to be prepared, because here's the thing. They often don't say no because the idea is bad. They say no because you haven't given them sufficient reasons to say yes, and that in itself is a very different thing. Over the years, I've lost dozens of good ideas to people who have held up a hand and gone, "No." I used to walk away muttering words that required a parental advisory sticker, because clearly, they're a dunderhead to have turned down such a good idea. But these days, I look back and I realize that it was all my fault. I hadn't put myself in their shiny black shoes to work out what would get them excited about it. So, I've written this prompt to help you do your idea justice, making sure that you articulate all the benefits in the right way for the audience, and it formats it in a handy proposal document that's designed to increase the chance of them saying a big, loud, "Heck, yeah!" It works by interviewing you to get all the information it needs to write the proposal. So, the results that you get are entirely dependent on the quality of your interaction at this stage. When it has everything it needs, your AI assistant will give you a draft of your project proposal one section at a time. Yes, it's another multi-stage prompt. It will help you clearly define the problem that you're trying to solve and the solution that you're proposing. It'll get you thinking about potential risks and how you might mitigate them. It'll help you define the scope of the project and the resources that you'll need. Then, it will write an executive summary that you can paste right at the front of your document. Along the way, it even gives you advice on how you can make your document even better. Now, that's pretty handy, isn't it? Of course, what it provides is just the first draft, a foundation for your own thoughts and refinements. I tend to find that when I read through what it's produced, I realized that I missed out some important information when the AI was asking me questions. So, most of the adjustments end up being because of my own shortcomings. Use this link to get access to the prompt and all of the other prompts in the course. I'll show you how this one works in the next lesson. But you should probably prepare to get a little bit busier at work, because a lot more of your projects are about to get the green light.
