(bright music) - [Instructor] Imagine shouting across a valley. Your voice echoing and it is overlapping with itself. Now, picture millions of phones doing this simultaneously over a cellular network. Without cyclic prefix, this echo, which is inter symbol interference, would make communication impossible. You may think signal travel at a speed of light. Then why does this delay occurs? Well, even if the signals travel at the speed of light but it still faced delayed due to distances between the base station and the UE, or maybe because of the multi-part fading and the reflections. With cyclic prefix, what happens? A copy of the end of the symbol is added to its beginning, which acts as a buffer to absorb any delayed signals. And then at the receiver end, this cyclic prefix or the buffer is removed to reconstruct the original symbol. There are two different type of cyclic prefix we use. One is the normal cyclic prefix.
