(bright music) - [Instructor] Imagine you walking into a hotel. Before they give you a room, they check your ID, reservation details and the preferences. In the LTE network, the HSS, which is Home Subscriber Server, plays a similar role for mobile users. It is the central database of the LTE co-network. It contains everything the network needs to know about each subscriber. HSS has couple of different roles to play, including the identity and subscription, where it checks that, who the subscriber is. What can that subscriber do or avail the services in this network? So every user has a profile stored in the HSS that includes their IMSI number, which is International Mobile Subscriber Identity. It contains the phone number, which is MSISDN. It also contains the device identifier, like what is the IMEI number of the device, whether they are prepaid or postpaid or what services they're allowed to use such as voice, SMS data or international roaming.
