Definition and usage

- [Instructor] Structural modeling represents how system parts are composed, decomposed, interconnected, and classified. It starts with identifying the elements that will constitute a model. Everything that goes into building a model is an element, a system, a part of a system. We use the term element to express everything. The second concept is a relationship that is a relationship between elements. It is important to note that, since everything is an element, a relationship is also an element. For example, if part one and part two are elements, and if part one contains part two, then this contains relationship is an element. Building a model is like creating a new vocabulary to define a new system, and that means every element in the system needs to be defined. For example, if I'm designing a board game, I need to first define what a board is. Once I have done that, then I can use that definition in different board games.
