- [Instructor] Upon starting SketchUp for the first time, the program will allow you to choose a default template that will be used each time you start a new file. This template will affect the background color, edge styles, and whether you use the imperial or metric measuring system. You can find even more options by clicking on More templates in the upper-right. To choose a default template, click on the heart under the thumbnail. Now, each time you open a new file, that template would be activated. You can explore each template, but for now, let's choose Simple Inches. Click on the thumbnail to start a new file. If you had previously chosen a different template, you can go to Help, Welcome to SketchUp, and the same window will appear again. Again, you can click on the thumbnail, Simple Inches to get started.
