- When I applied for my first job at the age of 14, I was determined to get hired. I stopped by the local grocery store and asked for an application, which I completed and returned the very next day. A week went by and I hadn't heard back, so I decided to call and see if my resume had been reviewed. The young lady who answered said no one had picked up my resume yet, and it was still sitting in the inbox. Determined, I decided to stop by after school a few days later and try to speak with the store manager. To make a long story short, I found the manager, was interviewed on the spot and got the job. My point is this. To get the job, I had to use several different methods to actually reach and connect with the store manager. Who, in terms of hiring, was the final decision maker.
