- Scope creep is the bane of project managers' existence the world over. If you've ever added work to your project without accounting for it in your schedule and budget, you've been a victim of scope creep. Unfortunately, it's easy to fall prey because you usually don't realize it's happening until it's too late. That's the nature of scope creep, but what exactly is it? Well, in simple terms, scope creep is theft by another name. In other words, you're stealing money and time from other areas of your project to fund your scope escapades. Scope creep is officially defined as the uncontrolled expansion to product or project scope without adjustments to time, cost and resources.
