Monitoring and control for the program
- Businesses don't like surprises. They don't want to wait until the end to see how things turn out. They want regular updates on the new capability that is being delivered and benefits being realized. This information will come from planned monitoring and control activities, and will enable the sponsoring group to decide whether to continue with the program or to stop it. Now let's take a look at how to monitor what's going on during the program. During the definition phase, the program manager and the senior responsible owner or SRO should agree on a method to capture and report progress through phases. This is commonly done as a report, but it could be a regular meeting. Projects will submit their reports to the program manager, and the program plan will be updated. As part of this regular monitoring, keep an eye on the risks and the issues of each project as these can impact the program.
