- [Instructor] Some things are so important that no one person or team can own them. Other things are important, but everyone wants someone else to start first. When it comes to data inventory, your engineers may push back on the urgency or even the necessity to do the work. This does not make them dishonest or malevolent. Hear me out. Their promotion are tied to metrics around engagement, growth, and revenue. For all of its pluses, data inventory does not show up Immediate benefits on a dashboard. To be clear, it'll benefit the business in the long run, but you need to consider organization dynamics and human nature as you build out your strategy. You could, for example, build a central architecture that categorizes data for all of your teams that are disconnected across the board. Or you could provide a combination of automation and requirements to many of these decentralized teams who can then customize data for their own needs. In my opinion, both are imperfect choices.
