Avoiding your strengths backfiring through overuse
Imagine turning your greatest asset into a liability. That's the surprising reality of an overused strength. Take confidence, empathy, and adaptability, which are valuable strengths. But too much confidence can lead to arrogance or complacency, poor decisions or alienating others. Being overly empathetic can lead to emotional exhaustion or an inability to set healthy boundaries. And excessive adaptability might derail you from maintaining a sense of direction or making decisive choices. Any strength that exceeds the limits of moderation will cease to exert a beneficial influence, and it's often due to an overreliance on a single strength and inadvertently neglecting others. So how do you avoid your strengths backfiring through self awareness and balance? Ask yourself. How do I use my strengths daily? Have I ever experienced a negative outcome or unintended consequence? How might others perceive my strengths? And what goals can I set to help me develop a more balanced approach to using my strengths?
