- Suppose you're in a position to choose from three job offers, but you're struggling to determine which one is the optimal match for you. How can you make a confident decision without feeling overwhelmed by all the details? Here's where using a decision matrix helps. It allows you to easily compare options and weigh different factors objectively so you can focus on what's most important in your decision. Here's how it works. List all the options you are considering across the top of the matrix. Identify the criteria that are important to you and list them in the first column of the matrix. Assign a weight or importance factor to each criterion. Evaluate each option against each criterion and rate it on a numerical scale. Multiply each rating by the corresponding weight and total the scores for each option. And voila, the option with the highest total score is likely the better choice.
