Embodying a growth mindset with feedback

How are you when it comes to receiving critical feedback? Do you take it personally? If you feel like you are your work, you'll likely struggle with feedback. But it's really important for growth and development. So here is a four step process to help you embody a growth mindset when it comes to receiving feedback. Start with gratitude. Thanks for bringing that to my attention or I appreciate you letting me know about that. Seek clarity. How would you have handled the situation? What could be done better next time? Be curious and have empathy. Have a mindset of, "I wonder what led this person to feel this way." You can respond with, "that's an interesting observation. Can you tell me more about that?" Or, "do you have any specific examples?" Show initiative about how you'll implement the feedback. Set yourself smart goals and track your progress to show how well you've taken on the feedback over time, and proactively ask for more. What else would help me take my performance to the next level? And if you fundamentally disagree with the feedback, well, depending on who it's from, you could try, "thanks for sharing that. I'll consider if it works for me."
