Break down decision barriers for quick approvals
- Are you trapped in the endless loop of approvals? Does decision making just take too long or is too complex? Well try the one over one rule where you limit the number of approvals that you need to just two signatures. Here's how. First, audit your decision gridlock. Which of your processes or decisions just get stuck in limbo? Which decisions if improved would help you or your team the most? Now, pick one and ask How many layers of approval do we really need? Maybe try a low risk decision and then apply the one over one rule limit approvals to you and your boss and communicate the change to your team. Finally, just monitor the impact. Is the new approval process an improvement, or is it a dud? Make adjustments as needed. Now, General Electric, GE, did this and instead of requiring multiple layers for sign-offs, they cut approvals down to just two decision makers. They sped up processes and it allowed teams to act faster, innovate more, and better respond to market changes. Try the one over one rule because life is just too short for progress to die while you're waiting for approvals.
