Identifying your motivators
- If you want to be someone who is self-motivated, you'll first need to understand what drives you, both personally and professionally. Think of your motivators as the foundation to your motivation. Here are two ways to dig deeper. Reflect on past successes. When have you felt most motivated and accomplished? What were you doing or working on? You may discover that you've been most driven when you've been helping others or perhaps it was when you were working on complex projects at work. See what trends you can identify. Differentiate between intrinsic and extrinsic motivators. Intrinsic motivation comes from within. For example, you're driven by personal growth or you're really passionate about a cause. Extrinsic motivators come from your external world. For example, you might feel motivated when you get a bonus at work or when you're publicly praised. Learning more about yourself and what drives you will be key to ensuring that you can stay motivated for the long run.
