How to respond to "how are you?"

- Here's the best way to respond to how are you? Number one, be forward-focused, not backwards-focused. If somebody asks how you are and you just respond, "I'm good. I'm okay. I've been better." Well, that only looks at what's happened in the past and they really don't go anywhere. But if you talk about what's happening in the future, like "What you're looking forward to, or what you're ready for", well, it's a lot more positive, a lot more confident, and a lot more interesting. Number two, if the question, how are you, makes you uncomfortable, then just flip it and talk about your day. For example, if you were to ask me, how are you, I could respond. "It's been a productive morning." When you talk about your day rather than yourself, they won't even notice. And number three, be honest. If you're having a hard day, tell them. If you're struggling, tell them. Building connection and credibility is about being relatable, not about being perfect.
