How to use soft skills to deal with a difficult boss
- I remember my first difficult boss. The year was 1998, and I was a bright-eyed 20-something working hard to make a name for myself as a journalist. I was also working hard to figure out why I and my boss at the time were not gelling. I didn't have the skills needed to navigate that contentious relationship then. But I survived. Now after 20+ years of managing hundreds of employees myself and serving as an executive coach to my clients, I realize what I was missing back then. Soft skills. Soft skills are non-technical skills that describe how you work and interact with others. They include skills such as emotional intelligence, effective communication, empathy, and resilience. It's likely at some point throughout your career you're going to encounter a difficult boss along the way. Their behaviors may include micromanaging, passive-aggressiveness, failure to communicate, and more. These behaviors can create an uncomfortable and unproductive environment. But don't give up. After watching this course, you'll know how to use seven soft skills to help you deal with a difficult boss. So let's get started.
