- [Instructor] When you decide to deploy Active Directory, you're going to need to deploy at least one domain controller, usually more. When you deploy a domain controller, you can choose to create a new forest. Most organizations only have a single forest, so this is probably something you'll only do once. When you add a new domain to an existing forest, you're prompted to add it as a new tree or as a child domain of the forest root domain. You can add a domain controller to an existing domain, so those are essentially your options, create a new forest, add a new domain to an existing forest, or add a domain controller to an existing domain. When you create a new forest, you start by performing the process of installing the Active Directory Domain Services server role. You'll do that for every instance of a domain controller, of course.
