Before we move to the next lesson and talk about some of the benefits of using the cloud, let's wrap up with the discussion of the consumption-based model in the cloud. Now, when I say consumption-based model, what that means is that you pay only for those resources that are allocated to you. Now, the use of the word "allocated" is important, because you can have a cloud resource that's allocated to you even though you aren't actually using that resource. In the cloud, if something is allocated to you, you're consuming it even if you aren't actively using it. So, for example, if you have a virtual machine running in the cloud, you're consuming that virtual machine even if you aren't actually using it, and that means you're going to be charged for it. Now, this distinction is important, and because of this distinction, there are a couple of rules that you can follow to help you control costs in a consumption-based model. First…
