Working with files and Maya projects

- [Instructor] Maya can use a lot of different types of files. You can use geometry files, you can use bitmap files, and many others. Now, when you work in Maya, it makes sense to stay organized, and in order to stay organized, they've created what's called a project folder. Now, you've downloaded this as your exercise files, now let's take a look at that. So if I look at my exercise files folder, you'll see that it's a Maya project. Now, it has a number of sub folders that contain various things that Maya can use. So here in the scenes folder, we have all the scenes for the course, and in the source images folder, we have a lot of the textures that we need for this course as well, and by storing it in a known directory structure, we can move that folder from computer to computer and still be able to work and have Maya find everything. So let's go ahead and set up Maya to point to our exercise files project. So all we have to do is go under file, set project, and then I'm going to go to my desktop, and select exercise files and hit set, and then I should be able to do an open scene, and then I'm going to click 0101 and hit open, and there we go. Now if it finds everything, the textures will show up and everything should hook up properly. Now, if you're starting from scratch and want to create a new project, you can do that under file, project window, and here, you just want to leave these at the default, and then just give your project a name and a location and hit the new button, and that will go ahead and create a new folder in that location with all the sub folders that you need, and then you can use that as your project. So go ahead and make sure you have your project set to the exercise files folder, and then we can continue.
