- [Instructor] Marketing is all about sending a personalized message. The more the message resonates with the recipient, the more likely they are to engage with it. Let's say, for example, you have a room full of sports fans. Sure, you can talk about sports, but if you know each person's favorite sport and then their favorite team, the conversation becomes a whole lot more meaningful. Now to create meaningful automation, you then have to go beyond just capturing your contacts. You need to create segmented lists. And what I mean by segmentation is dividing a group of customers into smaller subgroups based on shared characteristics, like we saw with the individual team. For example, you might have two very broad segments, those who have abandoned your cart and those who have recently purchased.
