- Successfully managing across generation is more than just a theory. An increasing number of companies are prioritizing cross-generational programs, often as part of existing diversity and inclusion initiatives. These companies include AT&T, McDonald's, Johnson & Johnson, PNC Financial, and UnitedHealth Group. Let's take a look at how two additional companies adopted inclusive generational practices. In 2007, BMW came up with a plan to address what appeared to be the inevitable productivity decline of their aging assembly line workers. The average age had risen from 39 to 47 in only 10 years, and workers were having a harder time maintaining their productivity levels. Rather than laying these older workers off, which would've had negative PR and community impact, the company decided to address the problem as an opportunity to improve overall efficiency on the production line.
