- [Instructor] You want to be safe on the internet? You need to be smart. It's tough because no matter how high your IQ, humans are emotional beings. We are easily manipulated into doing things that aren't smart. To help you be smart on the internet, I offer three suggestions. Use secure passwords for your online accounts, confirm that you're visiting the correct website, and review all download options. For online passwords, ensure that each site has a unique, secure password. The password need not be a mishmash jumble of characters, but you must heed the site's password requirements. Avoid common passwords or passwords you've used before. These are easy to guess. A jumbled text password isn't any better than this useful suggestion. Combine several words together, separating by numbers or symbols. Add one single capital letter, for example, Learning with a capital L, underscore, 1294, asterisk, groceries, lowercase.
