Link pages together
- [Instructor] Most Notion users will want to make multiple pages. And one of the key features in Notion is linking pages together so you can manage larger projects. First, we'll see how to link existing pages together. So on the left side in my workspace I want to select the page that I made in another video. Then here on this page, I'll click below my last block which will start a new block. I'll type the slash key so I can choose what type of block I want. Now you could scroll through this list to find the block type or immediately after typing the slash key you can type in the name of the block type that you want. So I'm going to type in page, that will filter down the list and that helps me find the option. So I'm going to choose the block type link to page. Now this shows a list of the same pages that I have in my Notion workspace over on the left and I could link to any of these pages. Now since I haven't built any other pages myself yet we're just going to link to one of the sample template pages that were included in my workspace when I set up the account. So I'm going to link to this task list page and now I have a link here on this page. So at any time I can come here to this page, click on this link, and it takes me to the page that it links to. So I might use this page to manage the specific tasks for my project, but for now, I'm just going to go back to the main page that we're working on. I'll select that over on the left but now I want you to see if I click the triangle to the left of this page I can see that that task list page is now nested under the page that I'm working on. But this little arrow on the icon tells me that this is just a link to another page. And if I click to select that page here it's just selecting the original page that that link goes to. Okay, so you can link to existing pages but you can also create new pages and link to those. So of course we'll go back to the main page for our project. And first I want to put a header here. So I'll click down here below my last block. I'll type in the slash key and I'm looking for the block type called heading two. So I'll select that and put in a little text here. Then I'll hit the return key to start a new block. I'll type the slash key to select the block type. And this time I'm going to search for page again. But in this case I want to choose the block type to make a new page. So I'm looking for this option that simply says page. This will make a subpage under the page that we're working on, and it will add a link to that page. So I'm going to select it and let's look around and see what happened. In my workspace on the left, there is now a new page under my main page. I can click on the triangle next to the main page to open or close that. And I can see that this new page is nested under the main page. And since this new page is selected, we can see that page over here in the editing area on the right. So let's give this new page a title. So I'll click in the title field and type this in. And then I'll hit the return key to start a new block. And we'll just keep this as a simple text block. So I'll type in some text and now I have a little content on this page. And at any time, I can go back to my main page by selecting that on the left. And then I could click on this link on this page which takes me to that new subpage. And of course, I may want to build more subpages with information and include links here on my main page or links to other pages. And let's just pause and reflect on what we've done and the potential here. If you just want to use Notion for a task list or a notebook you could make one page and put that information there. But if you want a project management system to keep track of lots of different pieces of information you can make multiple pages and link them together. In fact, we'll be doing something like that as we continue in this course. Or if you want something in between Notion can support the amount of information that you need to organize.
