- Next JIRA loves data. To leverage JIRA's powerful features be intentional about the information entered. The saying "Garbage in equals garbage out" is so true. If you enter inaccurate information or leave fields blank, you won't get to use JIRA's powerful reporting capabilities. Be sure to update item status as you work. It's everyone's responsibility to make sure the status reflects reality. If work starts, update the status. If work stops, even temporarily, update the status again, there's no point in using a tracking tool if statuses are inaccurate. Also, it's important to enter the right information at the right time. For example, enter estimates before release contents are selected. Enter fixed versions, sprints, and due dates when items are prioritized and log work as it happens.
